TO ALL WHO HAPPENED TO SEE PART 2 OF "IMAGE OF THE FENDAHL" RECENTLY: or anyone who didn't... [I saw it last night on WLIW in Long Island, NY] What was the meaning of all the announcer business? At the beginning, there was an announcer explaining the scenes from the previous part: in addition, there were blackouts every 7 minutes or so, presumably for commercial breaks --- COMMERCIAL BREAKS??? ON DR. WHO??? Then at the end, instead of giving way to the credit sequence, the part of the opening sequence displaying the "Doctor Who" logo was shown, followed by scenes from the next part of "Fendahl," narrated of course. This, in turn, gave way to the credits sequence, which, after the Director credit, continued on to display the name of the announcer (or introducer, as they said). Lionheart definitely did not add this in, as this part was distributed by Time/Life (Single episode format...) Wha' 'apenned? A. G. ON DR. WHO??? Lionheart, the company that distributes "Doctor Who" in America, edited versions of the show for use on commercial stations. That's what you saw. Sometimes, a public TV station will show the commercial version of the episode because the don't have the other version or someone slipped up. ---------------------------------------- Don't dream it; BE IT! ---------------------------------------- Jeff Mattson Jeff@MIT-Eddie.ARPA 497-3980 (work) 424-7226 (home) 24 Westland Ave. #10 Boston, MA 02115

---------------------------------------- Oops! I meant that it's Time/Life that distributes the commercial versions of Doctor Who. [] Welcome to the world of seeing Doctor Who as butchered by Time/Life. What you saw was meant to be shown on commercial TV. I saw what you saw on WOR New York, before our PBS station got it and before our cable company dropped WOR. I suggest that you call and bitch to your TV station, telling them that you want the movie format as obtained from Lionheart. The Time/Life versions may be cheaper. The episode format is fine, as long as it isn't the announcer version. -- |------------| | |-------| o| JVC HRD725U Mr. Video | | | o| |--------------| | | | | | |----| o o o | | |-------| O| |--------------| |------------| VHS Hi-Fi (the only way to go) ({!seismo,!ihnp4}!uwvax!astroatc!nicmad!brown)

I did not see the episode in question, I was in Europe, however, a friend of mine did see it and told me what happened. Based on that, I would suggest the following explaination. In the late 1970's, channel 9 in New York City were televising Doctor Who Saturday mornings at 10AM. They had an announcer describe what happened, and had frequent commercial breaks. I would suggest that WLIW received that copy of the episode. It does exist unadulterated, I saw it on channel 39. -- James C Armstrong, Jnr. ihnp4!abnji!nyssa The Boss gave me one of these, ten seconds, he said. Let's see if it works...
