[net.tv.drwho] Tardiscon

First off, for those in the St. Louis, MO area, or who will be there,
there is going to be a Dr. Who con at the Holiday Inn Clayton called
"Tardiscon" over the 16-18 August weekend. I have no other info.

Re the Dr's memory: I thought that the initial period after regeneration
was one of loss of memory and confusion, but then, later on, the
newly-regenerated Dr. has all the memories of his predecessors. So then,
why does Tom Baker's Doctor not use the "Venusian karate" or whatever it
was that the preceeding Doctor used repeatedly? There are many instances
where he engages in rough-and-tumble where the use of this one- or
two-finger karate would have simplified things and allowed the story to
progress without delay.

I agree, there do seem to be some inconsistancies. There is also Pertwee's
repeated use of "Venusian distance" (all of his instruments with the Jo Grant
assistant were of those units).

However, if I recall correctly, Baker started out very handily with any
type of weapon, and used some sort of "street-fighting" technique when it
was called for. Later on he kept getting hit over the head, or just gave
the impression of the bystander (even when about to be roasted). I think
some of the later shows resisted attempts to use Baker's character with
weapons and/or violence because Baker did not want to present his younger
audience with what he thought might be a bad influence.
