[net.tv.drwho] Colin Baker stories

nyssa@abnji.UUCP (nyssa of traken) (07/30/85)

>The Colin Baker stories have indeed been sold to The New Jersey Network.
>It must be nice to have money. Especially when my station is screaming
>for it and NJN is flaunting it. SIGH! It will be one story a month
>starting in October. NJN will be using them as specials.

Why does NJN raise several hundred thousand dollars for Doctor Who
each year? We likes it! If you really want to see what we will be
seeing, when you ask your public TV station to get them, don't
forget to be a member as well...

(Maybe it's because we in New Jersey are nuts, how many local clubs
have over 350 members??? (Prydonians of Prynceton))

>The Colin Baker stories will not be available in all parts of the country.
>I guess that it will take big bucks to get them. So, don't count on Colin
>Baker being in your neighborhood very soon (on local tv stations, anyway).
>
>The Hartnell and Trought package, mentioned in a previous posting, will not
>be going up on the bird. The bird transmissions have been delayed for at
>least another year. So, those of you who have TVROs will not be able to
>get them that way.

I did not know if they were, Lionheart did not want to release these
episodes until these broadcasts were available, I guess they finally
gave in to the lure of New Jersey dollars! :-)

Here in Chicago, WTTW raises a big percentage of it's money during
the Dr. Who show at pledge time. However, in recent years, they have
not had a very good working relationship with the Dr. Who clubs. It
used to be that the Dr. Who clubs would man the phones Sunday evening
for a couple of hours and they would wear scarfs, hats and all sort of
Dr. Who outfits. Lately, they have not been on the show and even those
people that do man the phones do not even wear a Dr. Who button or anything.
Still, we pledge a lot of money (I have been a subscriber for several years)
and support PBS in general. I don't know why WTTW gives us such a raw
deal but I do know that WTTW and the Dr. Who fan clubs had some sort of
falling out. I don't expect to be the first with anything here in Chicago.

Maybe this is because the Milwaukee and Chicago groups lobby very hard
during our channel 10 pledge drives, and seemto be very successful. In
fact, it wouln't surprise me to find out that a lot of the money during the
pledge drives comes from the Dr.Who fans and people from the clubs manning
the phones, in all the right costumes...
