[net.tv.drwho] A bleak but alterable outlook

percus@acf4.UUCP (Allon G. Percus) (10/05/85)

As much as I hate to be the bringer of bad news, I must admit that
prospects do not look good along the lines of the twenty-third
season. As it stands now, here is the situation (as I know it --
if I'm wrong, flame like hell):

The 23rd season WILL be filmed and broadcast, with both Colin Baker
and Nicola Bryant (who has put on about 80 pounds), however, IT
WILL ONLY CONTAIN 14 EPISODES (either two fours and a sixer, or three
fours and a two, most likely the latter). More to the point, THE
LAST TWO STORIES OF THE SEASON WILL TAKE PLACE ON GALLIFREY, which
unfortunately gives the BBC a good point at which to blow up the
entire place (in Blake's 7 style).

Therefore, we must start with our next surge of letter writing --
this time, polite but clear demands that the series be continued
PAST the season about to be filmed. The show must AT LEAST live
to see its twenty-fifth anniversary. Also, the current stars
must remain in the series (though we can do with out John Nathan-
Turner, flame me all you like for that).

So come on: there's no time like the present (ask the Doctor about that).

Here comes a flame.

Do not spread these rumours. It is currently untrue. I do not have
a copy of my source with me (hopefully I will remember to bring it
to-morrow); but it indicates that the Doctor Who Production Office
is planning on a 26 episode season and a 24th season.

The origin of the 14 episode rumour was Ron Katz, who should have
known better. A telex was missent. Details when I bring my source.

STOP THESE RUMOURS. There will be no decision made on the length
of the season until the BBC set sits budget for 1986.

As that is soon, I do urge others to write letters supporting the
continuation of the series.

I'll keep an eye on the old man, he seems to have a knack for getting
himself into trouble!

-who said it, what story?

OK. Thanks for telling me -- as of now, the rumor is officially
ended. Just one thing: you say the DW productions office is
planning whatever, but are you sure that BBC will agree?

You're damn right.

I will do so immediately.

Come on, that isn't fair to the poor souls who aren't getting Hartnell
yet. The answer is "The Daleks" (or could it be "Keys of Marinus" or
"Aztecs"? I'm not sure, but I know it's one of the three).
Ian Chesterton said it.
