[net.tv.drwho] A good old-fashioned Adric argument

Oh, goody. Another Adric argument.

> >Come now, what's wrong with poor Adric? Maybe you didn't like him

It seemed that as the show went on, Adric became more and more poorly
scripted. He had, without a doubt, some of the best and funniest
lines (which most people overrlook), but the character became
increasingly Black and White (figuratively, that is). I don't
think he brought the show into disrepute, and I don't see what
bearing the statement "he died saving earth" has on the performance
of his character. I do, however, think that Matthew Waterhouse would
have been infinitely better if he was allowed to do more of what
he wanted. He could easily, for example, have had a Tom Bakerish
attitude towards things after the regeneration, to compensate
for the "Tom Baker backlash" at that time.

> Fine, but many times before that he worked to the detriment of the
> Doctor. Remember Castrovalva? Kinda? Four to Doomsday?

Come on now, James. That's the whole fun of a character. However,
I agree that it didn't work out in Adric's case.

I only wish that it was Nyssa on board the freighter crashing intoo
Earth, not Adric. Better still, the Master should have killed her
in "Keeper of Traken." However, I don't want to pile a Nyssa argument
on top of this.
(I'm sorry, but I can't help this [chuckle :-), chuckle :-)]. I had
a great idea on how to get rid of Nyssa: when the Doctor jettisoned
part of the TARDIS in "Castrovalva," Nyssa should have been in that
part. Then, bye bye.)
