MTV has exclusive deals with the following companies: CBS RCA MCA Geffen Polygram Elektra Warner Bros. (pursuing) (above info comes from BAM magazine) The opening credit of the movie Scarface is "Universal an MCA Company" Bronski Beat's Small Town Boy video credits MCA. Can I assume that any music video produced by the above companies will appear on MTV? Are there smaller record companies owned by the above whose products may or may not make it to MTV?

Are there smaller record companies owned by the above > whose products may or may not make it to MTV? There was an article months and months ago in Billboard about the various exclusivity agreements. The approximate way they work is that a certain percentage of the record company videos are available to MTV for exclusiveness. MTV can pick and choose the ones they want. In return, the record company gets to pick a few videos (no idea on the exact number) and place them in MTV's medium or light rotation and MTV has to do it. Take a look at September and October Billboards for the full lowdown. -- "There's something moving Peter Merchant in the air tonight."
