["Shall I cut his heart out, Doctor?"] Further to my previous posting. KVOS in Seattle showed Androids of Tara last weekend. In a scene near the end, the Doctor and K9 row across a moat and break into a castle. The Doctor enters and says to K9 (something like): "You stay here K9. There will be lots of stairs inside ..." Looks like the Doctor doesn't have much faith in K9's ability to get around either! --- Marc Majka

In ''The Sun Makers'', K9 goes to rescue the Doctor in a subterranean level. Although there are a number of elevators shown, I have the distinct impression that at least one scene involves a level which the Doctor reaches by taking the stairs. This suggests one of three reasons why the Doctor would tell K9 not to go into Grendel's castle in ''Androids of Tara'': 1) He, like Marc, had forgotten that K9 has a mysterious method of negotiating stairs which cannot be shown on camera. 2) He had some {unspecified} reason why he didn't trust K9 in the castle (perhaps in some Time Lord-ish way the Doctor had confused K9 with Adric). 3) The Doctor knew that the invasion was going to succeed, and knew that K9's help wasn't needed. Getting fed up with K9's snotty ''Master!'', he decided to make K9 drift around the moat in a boat for punishment.
