[net.tv.drwho] Doctor Who in Austin, Texas

Well, I've been sitting here watching you foriegners in strange
countries like California and New Jersey talk about what's happening
with Doctor Who in your respective foreign principalities, so I've
decided to say something about the happenings of the show here in
Austin in The People's Independent Republic of Texas.

First of all, WHO-TEX II is coming up in May and will be right
here in Austin. WHO-TEX I was pretty small (only about 200 came),
but this time there is more publicity (hopefully, since the convention
is $10,000 in the red from last year). Last year, Pertwee and Colin
Baker joined us, and our governor rightly made them honorary Texans.
They gave the cabaret performance and necessary question sessions, and
we also saw some videos. It was pretty nice and uncomplicated (unlike
  certain megaconventions).

This year, Pertwee is definitely coming, along with Troughton. If
memberships bring in more money, Colin Baker might come, too. The
three day membership costs either $20 or $25 until the new year. The
cabaret costs $20 and there are other special memberships.

We just came out of the PBS fund-raising blitz, and they showed
Warriors of the Deep, Awakening, and Frontios on one day and then
showed The Five Doctors (for the 3rd or 4th time) and Resurrection
of the Daleks on another day (from 8pm to 12 midnight). This Monday
they will show K-9 and Company and start Planet of Fire. After they
finish with Davison, we get to see the Hartnells, Troughtons, all of
Pertwee and then Tom Baker (for the 4th or 5th time, ugh!). It won't
be until 1987 when we get to see Colin Baker.

There is also a Who club here, but it is full of people whose
sole purpose in life is Doctor Who, and these people should be
  kept at a far distance.

                                      Have fun,
                                        John Krist
