[net.tv.drwho] Daleks

argo@hou2a.UUCP (W.GARRETT) (01/10/84)

Ever since the first time I have seen the Daleks, they have been my
favorite monster. Unfortunately I have seen far too little of them. Could
any one out there provide some descriptions of shows dealing with the Daleks.
I would eventually like to be able to see how they have developed over the
years.

Here is a list of episodes in which the Daleks appeared.
Dates are when the stories were first broadcast by the BBC.
(They are in British order dd/mm/yy.)

First Doctor: William Hartnell (the best)
	The Daleks: 21/12/63 - 1/2/64 Terry Nation

The first story they appeared in. The second ever Dr. Who
story. It turned the series into an overnight success.

The Dalek Invasion of Earth: 21/11/64 - 26/12/64 Terry Nation

The Daleks try to steal the Earth's core.

	The Chase: 22/5/65 - 26/6/65 Terry Nation

The Daleks chase the Dr. through time and space. They
land on the Marie Celeste and kill the crew... Ian
and Barbara go home in a captured Dalek time-machine.

The Dalek Masterplan: 13/11/65 - 29/1/66 Terry Nation

The longest ever Dr. Who story (12 episodes). The Daleks
	plan to attack Earth again...

Second Doctor: Patrick Troughton

The Power of the Daleks: 5/11/66 - 10/12/66 David Whitaker

The Daleks have infiltrated an Earth colony and set-up a
reproduction plant. THe Dr. finds out and destroys them
	again...

The Evil of the Daleks: 20/5/67 - 1/7/67 David Whitaker

The Daleks in 19th century England. The Dr. is captured,
taken to Skaro and injected with the "Dalek Factor"
to turn him into a semi-dalek. It doesn't take... It
was designed to turn humans into Daleks. Instead he
humanizes some Daleks. Good Daleks no less.

These episodes, along with many other Patrick Troughton
episodes have almost certainly been destroyed. The BBC
didn't think them worth keeping and reused the video tape.
	aarrgghh...

Third Doctor: Jon Pertwee

The Day of the Daleks: 1/1/72 - 22/1/72 Louis Marks

A diplomat is kidnapped by some guerillas from Eath's
future who believe he killed some world leaders causing
war that enable the Daleks to conquer the earth. The
Dr. realises that it ws actually one of the guerillas
who did the killing and manages to save the situation.

Frontier in Space: 24/2/73 - 31/3/73 Malcolm Hulke

The Master is plotting to provoke a war between Earth
and Draconia. The Dr. gets involved and discovers the
Daleks are behind it. The Dr. wins the day but is
mortally wounded by the Daleks as they flee.

Planet of the Daleks: 7/4/73 - 12/5/73 Terry Nation

The Dr. discovers thousands of Daleks in cold storage
on Spiridon ready to become an army. The Dr. activates
an ice volcano and puts them in permanent cold storage.

Death to the Daleks: 23/2/74 - 16/3/74 Terry Nation

A space plague attacks the Galaxy. The Dr., the Daleks,
and the Exxilons fight for the antidote.

Fourth Doctor: Tom Baker
Genesis of the Daleks: 8/3/75 - 12/5/75 Terry Nation

The story of the Daleks creation. We meet their creator
Davros, surely the most evil character ever created
on film or tv. This is my favourite Dalek story.

Destiny of the Daleks: 1/9/79 - 22/9/79 Terry Nation

The longest gap so far without the Daleks. This time
they are digging to get Davros from the underground
cavern whey the Doctor buried him the last time. They
nedd him to reprogram them. Apparently his life-support
system preserved him all the time he was buried.

I don't think Davros was as effective in this one. There
was a different actor playing him and the voice wasn't as
menacing. In particular he didn't manage the amazing
transition from a softly spoken scientist to a crazed
megalomaniac sounding just like his Daleks, that
	was very effective in Genesis.

Well that's it so far. The Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison, has
yet to come up against the Daleks. At least in the USA. I
believe he came up against them in the current season in England

Yes, my "Daleks" note was inspired by the article in DWM 100.

showard@udenva.UUCP (showard) (12/15/85)

After watching "Day of the Daleks" last weekend, I realized that there should
never be an episode in which Daleks overcome humans/Gallifreyans/humanoids in
combat. Watching the episode, I came up with several method to overcome Daleks in combat, the easiest being: run up a ladder, and shoot down at them. Unless
they can fly (they haven't in any episode I've ever seen [which isn't very many
]). Anyone care to shoot this theory full of holes?

They fly in Revelation of the Daleks.
