[net.tv.drwho] Three Cheers for The Monk

nyssa@abnji.UUCP (nyssa of traken) (12/23/85)

During my meanderings through the world, I had an opportunity
to watch a couple episodes of "The Time Meddler". I took
a liking to the character of The Monk. Last Saturday I finally
had the opportunity to see the whole story, and have decided that
The Monk is my favourite Time Lord opponent!

His frivilous nature and unpredictability make him a perfect foil,
better than the Gallifreyan traitors, and better than the two
predictable nasties. The General was just dull in comparison.

Pity the Monk is stranded, and JNT has no plans to bring him back.

"Getting a bit rough, is it?"
"Remain silent, or you will die" Who said them, what story?

I would tend to agree about the Monk. I noticed that, in a way,
his character and style of speech is very similar to the Doctor
(Hartnell's, that is). The interaction, therefore, between him
and the Doctor is extremely funny.
I hope that all of "The Dalek Masterplan" is found one day, so
we can see some more of him.
