[net.tv.drwho] Stories by Douglas Adams

kucharsk@puff.UUCP (William Kucharski) (01/24/86)

If anyone knows the true answer to this, please respond.

A friend had asked me why no novelisations exist of the Douglas Adams written
episodes of Doctor Who (Pirate Planet, City of Death and of course, Shada).
My answer was that it probably had something to do with Douglas having a
contract with Harmony books (the publishers of Hitchhiker's) and W.H. Allen/
Target having rights to the Doctor Who novels. This is the only viable
explanation I have been able to come up with; any input on this would be
greatly appreciated.

I have heard many rumored reasons. The most popular one is
that he is very busy on other projects and that novelizing the
stories doesn't pay well enough to put the other projects on hold.
I think this is the reason that is **usually** given at conventions
when this question comes up

Douglas Adams is going to write the novelizations for his stories.
He does'nt want anyone else to do this which is why there are no
novelizaions for his stories. As soon as he has some time, he
will write them. As he has already expressed an interest to do so.

This information was obtained from one of the latest Doctor Who
magazines. I don't know if any of this has changed since then.

Douglas Adams is currently working on the novelisations of his
stories, possibly including Shada.

The Jagaroth certainly look forward to reading about themselves!
