The Doctor's scarf changes from season to season. In seasons 12 and 13, it is mainly brown tones, and, wrapped around his neck, barely reaches the ground. In season 14, it is still brown tones, but it is even less red, and is only worn unwrapped, hanging loosely from his shoulders. In season 15, it suddenly leaps to being about ten feet longer. Now it must be wrapped in one large loop before it stops trailing on the ground. It is now that Baker begins evolving imaginative maneuvers to fasten his scarf. (I can describe several different patterns he began to use to loop it so it wouldn't trail. It didn't work, though.) It also acquires a more colourful bent, displaying reds, greens, purples, etc. In seasons 16 and 17, it continues to grow in length and colour. Suddenly, wham! In season 18, the infamous scarf is now much longer, and has become burgundy red and a dark purple that could almost be black. The poor old Doctor must loop it in two enourmous loops, and it ends up looking like it's about to strangle him. In season 19, the scarf becomes a trail of yarn. "Pity about the scarf. Madame Nostradamus knitted it for me... a witty little knitter." -- Ark in Space 1.
