As I've never understood the precise physics of E-space, it wasn't completely obvious to me that the Tardis couldn't receive its power from Gallifrey, even though it was in a different universe. In any case, maybe the Tardis has batteries (Type 40, perhaps?). Actually, that isn't an entirely silly idea. One might hypothesise that there are ''accumulators'' under the console. When it is possible, the accumulators are recharged (automatically). Perhaps these accumulators store enough power to last one for an extended stay in E-space. Or perhaps this is another instance of poor continuity on the part of the writers.

re: contact w/ Gallifrey from E-space In "Full Circle", the TARDIS displayed images of Gallifrey until a local image translator was installed. (The standard image translator, as installed in a Type 40, displays an image using the absolute value of the coordinates.) Certainly this would indicate that some form of contact with Gallifrey was not only possible, but in fact realized. The inconsistency is in the lack of explanation why E-space (having negative coordinates) is smaller than N-space. (Or are all the zero planes extremely large?) Jonathan E. There was an episode where the master had setup a time contour from prehistoric earth into the present and "stole" a concord jet (sorry I don't remember the episode name). The master was "acquiring" a new power source from an alien ship; his old one was depleted. In the episode where the doctor becomes President of Gallifrey the Silurian goes into some sort of "power room" and turns it off. Does this generate power or receive it from Gallifrey?
