[net.tv.drwho] Blake's 7 info wanted

ix312@sdcc6.UUCP (ix312) (03/08/86)

I realize this has little to do with the good Doctor, but I was hoping
someone out there might be able to help me get some background info on
Blake's 7. I happened to catch an episode of it a week or so ago on
KPBS in San Diego. (We don't get Doctor Who - I am not pleased) Anyway
back to the point, Blake's 7 did remind me a bit of Doctor Who, same
technical development (ie special effects, etc.) and plot development. I
think it's from the land Down-Under and not the UK, but I don't know why.

I am trying to figure out the characters and plot line. Who are these
people? (I know Blake and his crew are the good guys; the bad guys all
wore black.) Where did they come from and what are they trying to do
(besides save the universe)? Any information at all would be
appreciated on the story itself or behind-the-scenes. I don't know if
KPBS plans to keep showing it; it is not on this week.

Also, I did notice that Terry Nation (Daleck fame) wrote this
particular episode. Just the extent of his involvement I don't
know. Anyway, if this episode is typical I recommend checking it out
if you can.

Blake's & was a mid-late 70's BBC scifi show about a band of political
prisoners who hijacked their prison ship and are now trying to rid
the universe of the evil Federation. (Servalan, played by Jacqueline
Pierce (Chessene) was the main baddie.)

The series lasted for four years. The first three were produced by
David Maloney, who directed many DW episodes and is considered
favourite to succeed John Nathan-Turner.

The series was based on an idea by Terry Nation, and he wrote every
script for the first season and a half.

The fourth season was added to appease B7 fans, and resulted in
every participant being killed.

Terry Nation is the creator of both the Daleks and Blake's 7...
