Rumour has it that the first public release of Toolpack is about to happen. Toolpack is a collection of tools for producing, testing and maintaining Fortran 77 software. The first public release will contain a lexer, a parser, a pretty printer, a declaration standardizer, a precision transformer, an instrumenter, a static analyzer and a couple of command interpreters (plus a few other odds and ends). All the tools sit on top of a Toolpack Interface to the Environment (TIE). The whole lot is written in standard fortran 77. We've had a pre-release for several months and have rewritten the TIE in C which gave a 15-30 times speed up and reduced the code size considerably. We have found the tools to be useful and they are certainly better than anything else I've seen for Fortran 77. NAG are acting as 'worldwide distributors' and since the package is public domain this means you should only get charged a handling fee. Further information can be obtained from S.J.Hague, NAG Central Office, Mayfield House, 256 Banbury Road, Oxford OX2 7DE, UK. Mail me if you want any more info on the UNIX version.
