What would be the reasons for selecting the Berkeley Fortran compiler or the System V, Release 2 compiler if one had both available to them and needed to port a large amount of Fortran code that wasn't developed on either of them ? Does anyone know the strengths and weaknesses of the two compilers and math libraries in terms of performance and adherence to the Fortran standard? What's the reason(s) for weak performance? Is it generally true that Fortran code developed on one of the compilers will run unchanged on the other? Can a Berkeley Fortran compiler run on System V system and can a System V compiler run on a Berkeley system without much porting trouble? If there is enough response, I will post the them.
