[net.misc] How hot is HOT?

scw@cepu.UUCP (07/15/84)

tonight my wife, daughter and I went to an Indian resturant. While dining my
wife made the following observation. "Food should be just spicy enough that
the pain almost overrides the pleasure."
I observed that Indian food comes in 3 flavors almost bland, mildly spicy and
killer (for the net.games.frp types 20d6, 2 attacks), and that the increment
between 'medium' and 'hot' is indeed a big one. I'll probably be sorry tomorrowmorning but it sure is worth it.

Unfortunately this can happen if you visit a given restuarant infrequently
or visit different restuarants expecting the chefs to prepare a dish with
the the same amount of spices. All I can suggest is that if you really love
Indian food is to work hard at finding one(or two ) restuarants that will
cater to your taste buds.I almost invariably eat Indian food on Sunday
evening in the town where I live and can almost always guarantee getting
the dish to be just about right.Live Indian music is a bonus that I enjoy
here on a Sunday evening.

If I break out in little sweat beads on my forehead or upper lip the
food is hot, otherwise not. Therefore, there are *very* few
restaurants whose standard fare I would consider hot, although several
places (esp. Szechuan/Hunan or Indian) will make extra hot dishes upon
request. I am constantly disappointed by Mexican food (at least of the
usual American [i.e., bland]) variety.
