Hi. I'd like people's opinion about "Dunkists", players who are very good at dunking. Who is the very best (pro or college or high-school or grade-school (don't laugh - ESPN showed a couple of 14-year old 7' twins who're in 8'th grade) - any level) ? My favorites: 1. Julius Erving 2. Dominique Wilkins 3. Michael Jordan and others. Thought I'd ask this question now . . the NBA slam-dunk competition should be over and I dunno who won, bah. Hoping Doc broke the glass at the competition, Andrew Royappa avr@purdue

Larry Nance (plays for Phoenix) won the dunk contest at the all-star game, and J (the doctor) came in second. For pure style and grace J has to be the best. Dr. J has to be the single most entertaining athlete in all of sports--anybody dare disagree? The other dunkists are good mainly because they can jump. Check out these numbers: Dominique Wilkins - 50" vertical leap Darrell Griffith - 48" vertical leap (Anybody heard the comment by Keith Jackson's college football broadcast partner: quote: "players with the highest vertical leap are invariably your best athletes".) If anybody can supply the numbers on Dr. J, Larry Nance, and others who have high vertical leaps, please do. One advantage J has over the others for dunking is that he can palm the ball with one hand so easily.

Hmm, so Dominique has a 50" vertical leap ? That's not too bad . . wish I knew what the Doctor's is - has to be a lot, though (obviously). Saw him do one over Tree Rollins of Atlanta the other night (Tree's about 7') . . berry nice. How come there's so little NBA stuff in here ?! Surely there must be more people out there who enjoy watching the "greatest athletes in the world ?" Other things: I'd like to know when Moses Malone will be back. Then the 76'ers can get back to the basics, like blowing out Boston (let's see if that ignites some talk here). They seem to be in a bit of a slump now. Face it!!! Nobody cares about the NBA anymore. I can't think of a more dull game to watch. Hurray for college basketball, Mark

. If you thought the Doctor jamming over Rollins was fine to see, you must not remember (or may not have seen) the All-Star game a few years ago which featured the Doctor jamming over Kareem!
