Well, the long and winding road Ray Meyer has been traveling for 42 years as DePaul threw away, both figuratively and literally, their NCAA championship bid last night against Wake Forest. I feel sorry for Ray the way his team basically choked. Up 8 points with 3 minutes to go and Wake Forest missing free throws as regulation ran down, only to get their own rebounds. If you missed it, DePaul got a Deacon board with 12 seconds to go, tried a long pass to half-court(error 1). Patterson, I believe, caught the ball but was falling out of bounds, so he tossed the ball way up in the air(error 2). It was caught by a W.F. player, who swished it in from about 20 feet == O.T. Then with 17 seconds to go, DePaul missed the front end of a 1-1 (Note: All season their free throw shooting left something to be desired, and I knew for a long time that it would be their downfall), The Deacons got the board, brought it down court, and sliced through the D for a lay-up and the win. Not meaning to take anything away from Wake Forest`s ability to come back, DePaul should have won that game. Ray was really down in the post-game interview, which in itself was really poor (who were those annoucers? One guy kept getting the teams mixed up. Where were Al and Billy when you really needed them?) We`re gonna miss you Ray. Good luck, Joey. At least we`ve still got the Illini and the Hoosiers in there. (Famous last words? Hope not).
