Might as well get this group going. Does anybody know how the 16
playoff teams are going to be determined in the NBA? Is it going to
be just the division leaders plus the next 6 teams in each conference?
16 is ridiculous.

How many of you are glad that the referees are on strike? Maybe the
new ref's won't be so intimidated that they obligingly overlook the
basic rules of the game like traveling. Consider the way
Julius Erving travels on many, if not most, of his drives to the hoop.

What do the NBA fans out there think of the Seattle Sonics trade
of James Donaldson, Greg Kelser, Mark Radford (since cut) and a #1
draft choice for Tom Chambers and Al Wood? A Seattle newspaper reported
that a San Diego coach stated that San Diego should be arrested for theft
because of this trade.

I would also like to know why there's so little NBA stuff. If you like
basketball, or anything actually, don't you want to see the best perform?
Admittedly the NBA has less rah-rah about the games, and sometimes
players give lackluster performances. In my book the root of all problems
the NBA has is that it has too many games. Less games would solve both
of the problems just mentioned.

I've always like the pro's because they were the first kind of basketball
I saw. Going from pro's to watching college and you notice the big drop
in skill. Also, the stall game and zones in college ball usually
make the game less exciting and less interesting. College ball can be
interesting, but usually only if a top-20 team is playing.

The NBA has some of the greatest all-around athletes in the world
(golfers are better athletes than some baseball players),
without a doubt has the most entertaining All-Star game (how many of
you fell asleep watching the Pro Bowl?) in sports, and should be the
most popular professional team sport, but isn't.
---End of raving.

As much as I enjoy the NBA, I watch only when exceptional players or
teams are playing, or my team (Seattle) is playing.
To those who don't have a local NBA team, or just don't like the NBA,
give it a chance. Because if the NBA goes down the drain, so does
college basketball. The only thing a college player would have to
look forward to is the Olympics.

Don't worry, Indiana is pretty sure to finish last,
poor Pacers. So Portland gets Indiana's pick ? I didn't know that.
This morning it occurred to me that either San Diego or Indiana
was likely to get the first pick (they're both currently last),
and I wouldn't mind which team got it since Philadelphia (who
I root for) has S.D's first pick, and I'm sympathetic to the Pacers.
But now . . I'm afraid I'll have to hope the Clippers get #1,
so it'll go to Philadelphia (sorry, david@tekig, but you understand ..).

Well, anyway, does anyone have predictions as to this year's
Champ ? People seem to think a 76'er-Laker rematch is inevitable,
but then UNC-Georgetown in the NCAA's didn't come about. Perhaps
Boston-LA in the finals. I think the winner is likely to be
out of

	Boston
	Los Angeles
	Philadelphia
	New York

That's what I think is "likely," mind you. Certainly Milwaukee, Utah,
New Jersey etc. won't be walk-overs. I don't know too much about
the western teams, though. Looking the list over, I noticed
three teams are from the Atlantic conference. Interesting. Anyone
know the overall record of the Atlantic conference against non-
conference opponents ? I wonder why the Atlantic conference and
the ACC are both so tough this year.

Some people, notably Dick Vitale, say Philadelphia will
be pretty unbeatable in the Playoffs. I certainly hope so . .
Malone had 31 pt's and 17 rebounds last night, so he's ok now.
