[net.sport.hoops] NBA: key injuries to Boston, Philadelphia

avr@CS-Mordred (Andrew V Royappa) (12/27/84)

	Hi.

Philadelphia has lost Maurice Cheeks for a while,
and Boston's Kevin McHale is out. Does anyone know the extent of
eithers' injuries, and when they'll be back ? I know McHale's
absence must be hurting Boston - they got really creamed recently
(110-85 or so) by some lesser team (Atlanta? NJ?). Philly seems to
be getting along without Cheeks, judging from the Detroit game,
but I hope he gets back soon .... they need his defense and in
any case he really revs the team up. I haven't heard much about
McHale and nothing about Cheeks in the news and papers.

Well, the Sampson-Olajuwan alliance seems to be working
great in Houston, although unfortunately Johnny Lucas left
due to drug problems. Both are averaging 19+ points and a
combined 18 or 19 rebounds, and both have had some really big
games. I wish there was more NBA on the channels I receive,
I'd sure like to see those two some more.

Speaking of big games, how about B. King's 60 point
performance in the Knicks' loss .. perhaps someone should
clone Bernard and have a two-man team.

I see I've rambled .. it's late. If anyone can send
me any info about the abovementioned injuries, I'll be grateful.

				Thanks,

McHale is in the lineup. His nose was broken a couple of times, but he
didn't miss much action. At least that's the only injury I know of; I
have been gone for a couple of weeks, but I saw one game on cable in
which he played.

The Celtics have just completed a rough schedule of about 1 1/2 months of
nothing but back-to-back games in different cities. At this writing,
they are 13-1 at home, 13-5 on the road. Their losses are to Milwaukee
(2), Detroit, Chicago, Washington, and Philadelphia.

Well, since I boasted about how strong Washington was, they have gone
5-7, including a loss to the Cadavaliers tonight. They will easily
finish third in the division, but don't appear ready to contend. On the
other hand, Milwaukee is playing great ball, despite my expectation that
they would fade. They now appear to be the class of their division.

Mo Cheeks is also back for the Sixers. He suffers from migraine headaches
(probably from too many chocolate chip cookies) occasionally.
