I have heard of a great rule change that would allow zone defense in the NBA(I think I read it on this net). Zones would be permitted but the 3-second rule in the lane would apply to the defense as well. This would open up the middle even against the zone. This would create alot more excitement with much more without the ball movement. I think this will benefit the game. schwady p.s. I hate dissalowing zones , the defense should be allowed to do what it wants!!!

I doubt it would open anything up. The five defenders would simply outline the key. The "middle" might be open but you wouldn't be able to get to the middle.

Would you give up a 8 foot baseline shot? I admit it would hurt the offensive inside game a litle but it would require constant motion and would be exciting. I dont like the man to man rule at all. Look at the knicks or lakers trapping defense, isnt that exciting? Zones would add strategy and tactics to the game. The passing game would be emphasized more to "break down" the zone. Finally, the offensive rebounding would pick up since the defense cannot just "camp" arround the basket for rebounds. Im interested on how opinion is divided on this subject? schwady
