Hi..... I was watching the Big EaSt final of Goergetown vs. st. Johns. I couldnt believe the domination on the boards from Goergetown even with Euwing on the bench. I was wondering if anybody can suggest the optimal defense against Georgetown to have any shot at victory. schwady p.s. The box and one worked well against St. Johns

Both of those guys play great defense and though Ewing is undoubtably a better than either, they can combine to plug up the middle pretty well. Moreover, Ewing seems to rely a lot on being able to push opposing centers around underneath the basket. This won't work so well in the NCAA where the referees are from different conferences. At least it own't work past the first quarter! And, to get back to Joseph and Salley, Joseph is big enough to push right back. I think Ewing is heavier, but not by much. In sum, look for the Eastern regional final, assuming the two top seeds get there, to be a brawl with the two centers in foul trouble early. Georgetown probably has a better team, but if anyone can beat 'em, it's probably Tech. -- Jeff Offutt School of ICS, Georgia Tech, Atlanta Georgia, 30332 ...!{akgua,allegra,amd,hplabs,ihnp4,seismo,ut-ngp}!gatech!gitpyr!ofut

How do you defense Georgetown??? You run, run, run and run some more. Give them a chance to set up their defense and you're history. On every opportunity drive directly at Patrick Ewing, until he gets into foul trouble. Unfortuneately, by that time, he may have blocked 132 shots and you're behind 26 points. I guess that's why I'm not coaching hoops. -- Chris Harvey,Pac Bell,SF ============================================================ "Joke 'em if they can't take a .... " (dual!ptsfa!ptsfc!cdh)
