[net.sport.hoops] upcoming press conference

One would think that President Reagan or his staff would have had
a little more foresight in scheduling their press conference
Thursday evening preempting live coverage of the Illini-Georgia Tech
NCAA tournament game. Obviously they do not care for the masses.
What would you rather watch(assuming you watch anything at all)?
I was not pleased to say the least. This better be important, or else...

This press conference does seem very well thought out. Consider:

Jessie Helms and the neo-Nazi coalition want to buy out CBS to "become
Dan Rather's boss"

CBS are televising the NCAA Tourney.

If CBS televise the NCAA Tourney, they are probably going to win the ratings
"war", which will allow them to charge more for commercials, earn them
more money, and make them more profitable.

A profitable company is more desired than an unprofitable company,
therefore the cost of stock in that company costs more.

This logic says that Presidant Reagan chose to hold his press conference to-day
so that CBS would be the most hurt financially, forcing their price down,
and makeing the conservative take over easier.

You are too kind to the man. Generalissimo Reagan has all along been part
of a conspiracy among the reactionaries. It is well known that they wish
to sacrifice life itself to God, and will stop at nothing to do so. We
must smash this war dog, this evil dictator! Watch him as he uses Hitler's
speaking style at his press conferences! He is secretly forming a new SS
within the CIA! If you love life and all good things, you must act now to
stop this diabolical fascist! And may the Force be with you.

Blame it on the Washington pressies. They love press conferences.
If they don't get their regular day in the sun--a chance to put on
the pearls, the red ties, to see and be seen--then they all start
writing about how the President is so inaccessible, reclusive,
uncommunicative. So Sam shouts "will you be back next month, Sir?"

"Tomorrow has been cancelled due to lack of interest."

Why would anyone in their sane mind write "Elbereth"?
