For the second time in the last three years the NCAA
basketball champions are wearing a glass slipper. Rollie
Massamino did a superb job preparing the Wildcats for this
tournament. The play of Pinckney, McClain, McLain and Jensen
was outstanding. Their performance against Georgetown was
without a doubt the finest basketball I have ever seen.
Villanova shot 22 of 28 from the field and 22 of 27 from
the free throw line. How do you beat a team when they shoot like
that? It's hard to believe that Georgetown only lost by two
points. Give the Hoyas some credit for that. They didn't lose
the game. Villanova just played a little better.
I still feel that Georgetown is the best team in the country.
I don't think there are many people who would deny that. If they
played 100 games against Villanova, I honestly believe that they
would win 90. But don't try to tell me that Villanova doesn't
deserve their national championship. They knocked off #2 Michigan,
#7 North Carolina, #5 Memphis State, and #1 Georgetown. That's
pretty elite company. Great work, guys! I loved every minute of
it. Your efforts proved that dreams do come true.
