[net.sport.hoops] The Denver Nuggets...

gronowski@shorty.DEC (04/04/85)

So much for all the recent fuss about the Denver Nuggets... A trip to
the playoffs for them is almost a free gift considering the competition
in the West. They proved LA was better by losing 118-104(?) in Denver.

If they were in the Eastern Conference, they'd be fighting Cleveland and
Atlanta for the 8th playoff slot.

One game does not a season make. True, LA has not lost in Denver this
year, but the Nuggets have also won 3 straight in the Forum. You don't
compile a 51-27 record in the NBA by luck. The Nuggets have also
split with the three top teams in the east in their season series
(Boston, Philly, and Milwaukee).

Granted, the Nuggets don't have the talent of the Lakers, Boston, or
Philly. But they do play well as as a team, are well coached, and
have alot of heart. Look out for them in the playoffs. The most
talented teams don't always take the trophy (ask Georgetown)!

After the Lakers ended the Nuggets' 20-game home winning streak last week
at Denver with a 118-104 victory, they proved who is the Number 1 team in
the Western Conference with a incredible preformance at the Forum last
night in a 148 (!) - 119 blowout. It was quite a game to witness: I don't
think I have ever seen the Lakers play any better in the first half of a
game in my life (they had a 78-44 lead at the half!). I'm telling you, it
was *SHOWTIME*, and the Nuggets are not a bad team. But the way the Lakers
were playing, NO ONE could have stopped them.

It's clear to me that the Lakers are hungry to avenge their Championship
Series losses of the past 2 years and will be ready when it comes down
to the Finals this year.
