[net.sport.hoops] the Boston Celtics

Well, justified again. Boston rebounds from its fourth-quarter
woes to dump Detroit in the sixth game on the Pistons home court.
Both T. Tyler and Vinnie J. got their heads out of the clouds
and could not help Pocket Magic overcome Bird & Co. Enough said.

On to Game 1 against Philly. Boston played some of the best defense
I've seen them play this year as they shut down Moses, etc to win
the first of 7 in the Eastern Conf Finals. Once again, Boston's
inside game was nearly unstoppable. The Chief outplayed Malone
for the first time this year but got plenty of help from McHale,
DJ and Bird.

It's gonna be another classic series as they head into
game 2 on Tuesday 05/14/85. From there, they move to Philly
for back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday. Just like the old days...

Go Boston!

Well, it looks as if Philadelphia has left its offense back in PA.
For the second straight game Philly's shooting has been atrocious,
due to Boston's defense of course, and now find themselves on the
short end of a 2-0 count in the best of seven series.

Boston's inside game again dominated the Sixers as Parish, McHale
and Bird lead the scoring. Also gotta give credit to DJ for a
fine defensive effort on Toney.

It won't go down in the books as a pretty victory, but it was a "W"
nevertheless. Next stop: The Spectrum on Saturday and Sunday.
Be there, 'cause it's not gonna be a Celtics sweep.

It-couldn't-happen-to-nicer-guys department: Denver defeats
the LA Lakers on LA's home court last night. Denver was the
only team to beat LA twice this year on their own court, so
this one doesn't surprise me a lot.

That should slow down LA's coronation for a couple of days or so.

Go Boston!

So, I guess I don't have to say anything about Boston's victory
over Philly on Wednesday night. Once again, it was a team effort
with the emphasis squarely on defense. Somehow, Larry Bird became
the hero after having a lousy shooting night. The old adage says
the great ones do that ...

If someone had asked me to predict a Boston win in 5 games,
I certainly wouldn't have done it. In fact, I may have said
Philly will win in 5, not Boston.

Therefore, I'm not even going to try to forecast the LA-Boston
re-match. Suffice it to say it will be great to see them go at it
again. Forget LA's 44 point win over Denver Wednesday, that was
an overmatched (and injured) Denver team. Besides, LA knew that
Boston won and they could smell the Atlantic from Inglewood.

Put the pink tofu and soyburgers away folks;
it's time for some serious basketball.

Go Boston!
