Someone made a request a few weeks ago for preseason college basketball polls. The first one I've seen showed up on my doorstep in the "ACC Basketball Handbook" (180pp. - $3.95 from UMI Publications, Inc., P.O. Box 30036, Charlotte, N.C. 28230). This book is primarily concerned with the 8 ACC teams, but it has a good bit of national info as well (primarily the 85/86 Top Ten predictions and recruiting). So here's the Top Ten predictions (the article was written by a Tom Fergeson, whom I've never heard of, but I assume he's a sports writer at one of the newspapers in the ACC area): 1. Michigan 2. Georgia Tech 3. North Carolina 4. Kansas 5. Duke 6. Syracuse 7. Illinois 8. Georgetown 9. Louisville 10. Auburn Also listed are some other teams that "have the best chance of breaking into the top 10": N.C. State LSU Iowa Southern Cal Memphis State Boston College Alabama-Birmingham Since I mentioned the recruiting articles before, here's the ACC Basketball Handbook's rating of the top 20 recruiting classes for this year (this article was written by Doug Doughty): 1.
