Reprinted without permission from this morning's Atlanta Constitution: TECH PICKED FIRST IN BASKETBALL POLL ---- ------ ----- -- ---------- ---- Citing the leadership of Geogria Tech point guard Mark Price, The Sporting News Wednesday in its annual preseason poll picked the Yellow Jackets as the nation's No. 1 college basketball team. In a bit of a surprise, Georgia was ranked No. 12 in the first poll of this season. The Dogs were ranked that high despite losing star center Cedric Henderson because of ineligibility. Following Tech in the poll are Michigan, North Carolina, Georgetown, Duke, Illinois, Notre Dame, Auburn, Louisville, and Kansas. Ranked behind the first 10 in the poll were Syracuse, Georgia, Navy, Oklahoma, Iowa, Louisiana State, Alabama-Birmingham, Maryland, Kentucky, and Memphis State. ------------- End of article Well, Bobby Cremins didn't get his wish. He was hoping Tech didn't get the number one spot. Sorry Bobby !!! Number 1 meets number 2 on November 30th. I think that will be the earliest those 2 ranks in a poll have ever met. Should be a thriller at the Tipoff Classic. Conference Breakdown -------------------- ACC 4 Metro 2 SEC 4 Big Eight 2 Big 10 3 Ind. 2 Big East 2 Sun Belt 1
