I am a Celtic fan (yes I used to live near Boston) here amidst many
too many Knick fans. I realize it might be ridiculous to hope
Cedric curbs his mouth but I hope he makes a layup or two before the
series ends. After all, being tied 2-2 with the Knicks is no fun.

How about the Nets? Anybody think they'll rebound from last night
to win 2 in a row and advance? Could it be?

.........Actually, I put this note in because I've seen precious
little about the NBA championships, come on, not everybody is a 76er
fan!

The Celtics acquired Jerry Sichting yesterday (10/2) from the Indiana
Pacers. That gives them yet another white ballplayer. I've always
wondered about the disproportionate number of white Celtics. Does anybody
else have any thoughts concerning the *possible* racist policies of the
Celtic front office? Or is this a completely unfounded claim?

By the way, Sichting's career totals:

Yes, very racist indeed: nine white players coached by a Black head coach.

I think the sellout crowds speak for themselves. The Boston area is not noted
for racial tolerance. Ask Bill Russell. I honestly do not believe that the
Garden would sell out if Magic were here instead of Larry. A tragic flaw.

How could the franchise which field the FIRST all black starting five,
drafted the FIRST black player, had the FIRST black head coach, and
currently has a black head coach possibly be thought of as racist?
Quite simply the Celtics have always chosen the best players available
to them. Their record bears out the success of that approach.

Just for the record:
Bird -- More than half the teams passed him up (around the 20th pick in 1978).
McHale -- Two teams passed him up (Would Golden State trade Joe Barry Carrol
            for Parish and McHale?).
Ainge -- All teams passed him up and some passed him up twice.
Wedman -- Obtained from Cleveland for Darren (we hardly knew you) Tillis
(Would Cleveland trade Tillis for Wedman now?)
Sichting -- Obtained from Indiana for Quinn Buckner.
Walton -- Obtained from L.A. Clippers for Maxwell.
Carlise -- All teams passed him atleast twice.
Kite -- need we say more

Just a few comments on the postings about all the Celtic players from a
non-Celtic basketball fan.

Larry Bird-- It is true the Celtics drafted Bird after his junior year
a gamble that has obviously paid off, but, what if they
didn't sign him by the next draft? They would have lost a
              first round draft choice.

Kevin McHale- Another choice that has obviously paid off but he was
a relative unknown until the Aloha Classic. And two teams
passing him up is no surprise. I don't remember who went
               before him.

Danny Ainge- Come on now. Ainge is a better than average player on the
Celtics but an average player at best on many other teams.

Bill Walton- Although this looks like a good trade I must wait and see
how it works out. Remember Walton hasn't played a full season
              for many years.

Scott Wedman- Picked up from Cleveland. That is all that needs to be said.
Cleveland has not been known for their brilliant trades.

Kite, Carlyle etc-- I fail to see any great talent here.

Although I do not like the Celtics, I must admit they are a great basketball
team. They have made some great trades and draft picks but they have also
made their share of mistakes. I don't see many of their picks since Mchale
on any teams making any great impact.
