Just before I left LA for SF, I do recall a study (summarized on page 1) of the LA Times. It did show demo bought more foreign cars, and it also made a significant attempt to classify people's opinions and personalities by the type of car they purchased. It was a serious study about the time Detroit was reaching its lows. It said a lot more than political afflitation.
