I don't normally read this file, but I was testing out my findnetusr shell script with "Darth Wombat", a fairly common string with a space in it, when I stumbled on this. Haven't played basketball in several years, and haven't been to a game since high school, but for tischler's benefit -- I don't gotta stuff nothing down my pants: I'm at Illinois. Let's hear it for Lousiville. Too bad about Wagner. He'll be a great pro with that automatic 20 footer and his leaping ability. Denny Crum has won 20 or more games for so many years in a row now it's amazing his name isn't up there with the Dean Smiths.

The first several years Denny Crum was at Louisville, they were in the Missouri Valley conference. Rather obscure compared to the ACC or the Big Ten. He was one of the big forces in the formation of the Metro Conf. which was primarily for basketball schools. The Metro has been more than respectable the last several years with Va. Tech and Memphis St. having good success along with Louisville. (How soon we forget the Card's 1980 NCAA Championship) It is really amazing he has had as many 20 win seasons when you look at the schedule that the Cards play. Some of the heavyweights this year included Louisiana Tech., Kentucky, Oklahoma, N.C. State, SMU, and DePaul. While I was watching Louisville get drilled by UCLA on NBC Sunday, I heard that Wagner will be back next year! This was the only high point of a rather dreary game. Watch out next year! {} The Celtics are going to camp with 17 players. The racial breakdown: Larry Bird Robert Parish Kevin McHale Dennis Johnson Scott Wedman Sam Vincent Bill Walton Ray Williams Greg Kite Carlos Clark Rick Carlisle Andre Battle Rick Lamb Ronnie Williams Danny Ainge (David Thirdkill) Jerry Sichting It is thus mathematically conceivable that the Celtics could come into the regular season with 9 white players. This reporter sees that as unlikely. Parish, Johnson, and Vincent are sure bets, with at least one berth for Battle or Thirdkill, and one berth for Clark or Ron Williams. We'll just have to see who will work this camp. Jerryl Payne ...!ihnp4!inmet!faust!jlp
