...and the shot is Gtt! (Inside joke to Georgia Tech) In the words of the immortal Jackie Gleason, AND AWWWWAAAAAAAYYYYYY WE GO !!! Here is the posting you've all been waiting for. George is going to take it to the hoop and give you his pre-season top twenty (or so) for 1985-86. We explained how we calculated his rankings in the previous posting. Now we are going to lay it on the line and go for two. Here his George's list: 1. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 14. Memphis State Tigers 2. Michigan Wolverines 15. North Carolina State Wolfpack 3. North Carolina Tar Heels 16. ULNV Runnin' Rebels 4. Illinois Fighting Illini 17. Alabama-Birmingham Blazers 5. Duke Blue Devils 18. Iowa Hawkeyes 6. Syracuse Orangemen 19. Maryland Terrapins 7. Georgetown Hoyas 20. Virginia Tech Gobblers 8. Kansas Jayhawks 21. DePaul Blue Demons 9. Louisville Cardinals 22. Alabama Crimson Tide 10. Auburn Tigers 23. St. John's Redmen 11. Oklahoma Sooners 24. Nebraska Cornhuskers 12. Notre Dame Fighting Irish 25. Washington Huskies 13. Kentucky Wildcats 26. Louisiana State Tigers There you have it. Georgia Tech got the nod (sorry Bobby). But they could drop way back if they lose to Michigan by a wide margin on November 30th in the Tip-Off Classic. Then again, they might stretch a lead so big that no one will be able to catch them (at least that's what we hope for). BTW, George says Tech will beat Michigan by 1 on the neutral court in Springfield. The rest of the least goes pretty much with the consensus list posted by one of George's keepers earlier (that's what we used to feed George with at the beginning anyway). Navy is not in our list because we are not following the Colonial (formerly ECAC-South) conference. LSU is so low because of the scandal surrounding their athletic department and because they don't have Tito Horford any more (in actuality, LSU is tied by power rating to the 9 other teams above them). Now, for the opening games. The NIT started today and this posting is going out before I find out what any of the scores were so it is valid. George only picked one game today. UAB over Texas A&M by 1. Other first round NIT action that George picked includes Washington by 1 over UTEP and Auburn by 7 over West Virginia. For a game coming up on Sunday that was supposed to inaugurate the Student Athletic Complex at Chapel Hill George predicts #3 UNC will trounce UCLA by 13. I think it will be closer than that. The SAC will not be finished in time for that game so Carmichael will get to use it's magic a couple of more times. On Monday the Gamecocks of South Carolina try to run the Rebels around in Vegas, George says UNLV by 8. That's it for the picks tonight. We hope to post George once a week each Tuesday or Wednesday. We will try to post George's predictions of the key games for that week but space is at a premium on everyone's machine so we will just list 5 or 6 (or 2 or 10). It all depends on how we feel that day. However, if you want to get all of George's picks for the coming week, drop us a line at the address below and we will mail them to you. So until next week....
