I hope Steve hasn't beaten me to this. Here are the latest CIAU Basketball (Men's) rankings as of November 26. Previous ranking is in parentheses. 1. Victoria ( 1) 2. Waterloo ( 2) 3. Calgary ( 4) 4. St. Francis Xavier ( 5) 5. Manitoba ( 7) 6. York ( 9) 7. Wilfrid Laurier (NR) 8. Saskatchewan ( 8) 9. Dalhousie (NR) 10. Winnipeg (NR) Conspicuously absent are Acadia (6 last week), which lost to Laurier in the Naismith; a highly touted Toronto, which has now lost four straight tournament games; and Western, a CIAU regional wild-card last year based on their Top Ten ranking and expected to in the same position this year. The regular season has started in the Atlantic, Quebec and Ontario East Division leagues. The OUAA West, Great Plains and Canada West leagues begin their seasons in January. Interesting note: St. Mary's has resumed play in the AUAA after their voluntary withdrawal from last season. (They discovered they had an ineligible player just before the 1984 East Regional `Three' and withdrew to save the embarrassment of an investigation.) Apparently many of their players from 83-84 have transferred elsewhere and are now eligible to play for their new teams, leaving the Huskies with nothing to rebuild with... dwarf -- "Degeneracy is not necessarily a bad thing." mathNEWS--the math student newspaper at the University of Waterloo {allegra|clyde|linus|ihnp4|decvax}!watmath!watdcsu!mathnews UUCP mathnews%watdcsu@waterloo.csnet CSNET mathnews@watdcsu NETNORTH
