[net.sport.hoops] Kareem's sky hook

Last night on the 11-O'Clock news I saw some one block Kareem's famous
sky-hook. That's right, it was Manut Bol. It was so incredible. Bol
didn't really jump that high. He just reached out and blocked the unblockable
shot. (Is it that Kareen might be getting a bit old :-)

I was fortunate enough to get a ticket to this game and see the Lakers in action
against the Bullets. The place was sold out as every basketball fan in the D.C.
area who appreciates Kareem's skyhook and Manute's height wanted to see this
matchup. I don't think anyone was disappointed, including me. I was impressed
with the play of both teams. Washington hung in the whole way, but didn't have
it when they needed it. The Lakers have too much depth. Barring any major in-
juries, they should be on their way to another title. I'd like to see another
Boston-LA rematch, but after watching the game over the holidays between the
Knicks and the Celtics, I just don't know. The Celtics just didn't display the
heart that they usually have. I mean, you just can't blow 25-point leads midway
through the 3rd period and expect to walk into the NBA finals. The Knicks are
definitely going to be a force in the East once everyone is healthy. Sorry, I'm
off the point here...

The Bullet-Lakers game featured about 6 or 7 blocked shots by Manute Bol. Kareem
was blocked by Manute once on his hook and 2 other times under the hoop. It was
a good game, for the most part though. I would have to say that Kareem won the
battle of the big men easily. The Lakers went to him down the stretch as they do
so often. It was as if the rest of the team was feeding him just so that they
could watch the matchup themselves. I'm sure Kareem wanted to show everyone
that you need a lot more than height in this league to get someplace. I'm not
saying that Manute doesn't have potential, but right now he is only good at one
end of the court. The Bullets ignore him for the most part at the offensive end
of the court. I wish the Lakers came to DC more than once a year.
