[net.sport.hoops] George has the blahs

gpb@msdc.UUCP (George P. Burdell) (01/16/86)

Well, George is losing more games to his point spread than he would like to.
Last week he picked 45 right, 23 wrong, and lost 36 to his spread. But
on the brighter side, that means George is picking the right team 81 times
out of 104. For the season George's record is 244-109-132==482. Here is
his spread record for last week and the season:

         Dates 0-4 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-24 25-up Total
     01/06-01/12 36 30 22 10 5 1 104
        Season 150 148 89 53 27 15 482

The top twenty did some shuffling around this week. Tech and Duke swapped
places (happy Beth??) and Syracuse jumped up where they should be. The big
surprise, however, is the Auburn Tigers, newcomers this week at number 12.
Pitt and St. Joe's are our 2 other newcomers. So here is George's list for
this week:

George's top twenty (or so) - Week eight

1. North Carolina Tar Heels (1) 12. Auburn Tigers (*)
2. Duke Blue Devils (4) 13. Oklahoma Sooners (12)
3. Syracuse Orangemen (7) 14. Georgetown Hoyas (10)
4. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2) 15. North Carolina State Wolfpack (15)
5. Kansas Jayhawks (5) 16. Illinois Fighting Illini (17)
6. Kentucky Wildcats (8) 17. Iowa Hawkeyes (16)
7. Indiana Hoosiers (14) 18. Nevada-Las Vegas Runnin' Rebels (23)
8. Michigan Wolverines (3) 19. Old Dominion Monarchs (20)
9. Memphis State Tigers (6) 20. St. Joseph's Hawks (*)
10. Louisville Cardinals (11) 21. Pittsburgh Panthers (*)
11. Virginia Tech Hokies (9) 22. Virginia Cavaliers (19)

We apologize for getting this out so late. Here are the interesting games
(we feel) this week that will probably have been played by the time you
get this. Wednesday has Syracuse at Georgetown (Orange by 1) and Tennessee
at Vandy (EVEN). Thursday's big battle in the Sun Belt conference has
Western Kentucky travelling to Birmingham to play the Blazers. The
Hilltoppers are doing okay and could challenge UAB (George says UAB by 5).
But the big battle this is week is in my beloved ACC. Duke goes up the
road to Chapel Hill to play them Heels. I'll be glued tothe TV for that
one (UNC by 12).

That's it for this week. Once again, we apologize for the lateness.
Have a good rest of the week!
