[net.sport.hoops] Surprise !! Look who's back in town !!

gpb@msdc.UUCP (George P. Burdell) (02/12/86)

Well fans. I humbly apologize. It seems that I have been derelict in my
duties to bring you the weekly results of George's picks. Mind you, we have
been keeping George up-to-date (yeah, Tech lost 6 points last week), and
we've some interesting changes. Over the past four weeks, we had UNC, Tech,
and Duke share the lead and then each take the number one spot. George's
top twenty appears later. To those of you who have sent me mail about
George, I'm sorry for not answering. There really is no excuse; I've
just been doing other things and answering my mail isn't one of them.
Please keep the cards and letters coming and I will get to them soon.
Thank you for your understanding.

As for the record, George is not doing so well picking the winner according
to his spread. He is picking the right team 49% of the time. But, his
spread record is good, he picked the spread 66% of the time within 0-9
points of the actual spread. Not bad for a bunch of bits. Here is his
spread record with his winner's record next to it for the weeks we've
missed you. How bout the week ending 2/02 - 72 winners !!!!

Now, on to George's top twenty for this week. Like I said above, UNC, Duke
and Tech have been swapping places the past four weeks and even all three
were tied one week. After an abysmal week by his Jackets, George dropped
Tech some points. This week we have Duke and UNC fighting tooth and nail
with Duke up by one point. Of George's 24, 18 of them are shared by four
conferences. The Big 10 is the most balanced this year and they placed
6 teams in this list to prove it. The ACC is the best conference with
3 of the top 5 and 5 teams overall in the list. SEC has 4 and Big East has
3. Here's the rest of George's list for this week (sorry, no last week's
place included this week).

Last week was a big week in college basketball. This week offers some good
games but not with the flair as last week. This week's key games include:
Monday night has Louisville travelling to Virginia Tech (Louisville by 3)
and St. John's at Georgetown (Georgetown by 6). Wednesday sees the
battle for the SEC crown, Kentucky at Alabama (Alabama by 4) - Roll Tide!
Finally, Saturday has Duke at N.C. State (Duke by 3)

Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding during my absence.
We hope to see every week now until Showtime in Dallas.

Have a good week.
