The five CIAU conferences have finished their regular seasons and some have begun their playoffs. I don't have complete results or records, but I'll post what I know now and everything else as I receive it. Canada West: The Victoria Vikings will not win the CWUAA playoff title that they relinquished last year. They hosted the semi-final against the Saskatchewan Huskies and lost by a margin of 2-4 points (I'm not sure exactly). The Lethbridge Pronghorns dumped the Calgary Dinosaurs to gain the other berth in the CWUAA final, which will be played in Lethbridge this weekend. Great Plains: The Manitoba Bisons win first place and play Regina in one semi-final. The Winnipeg Wesmen host the Brandon Bobcats in the other semi-final. Brandon must win the playoff in order to qualify for a CIAU regional tournament since they are on probation. Ontario: (East Divison) The divisional tournament is at York this weekend. Matchups are Queen's Golden Gaels vs York Yeomen and Toronto Varsity Blues vs Laurentian Voyageurs. (West Division) Last night's quarter-final scores (visiting team first): Windsor Lancers 102 Laurier Golden Hawks 91 McMaster Marauders 87 Brock Badgers 71 Guelph Gryphons 55 Waterloo Warriors 74 The divisional tournament at Western has Waterloo playing McMaster in one semi-final and Laurier taking on the Western Mustangs in the other. Quebec: No results yet, but McGill hosts Trois Rivieres in the semi-final with the winner playing Concordia for the championship. Atlantic: The conference tournament will be played at the Metro Centre in Halifax this weekend. The Dalhousie Tigers play the St. Francis Xavier X-Men and the Prince Edward Island Panthers take on the Acadia Axemen. Rankings: This week Who Last week 1 Manitoba 3 2 Victoria 2 3 Winnipeg 4 4 Concordia 1 5 York 5 6 Dalhousie 7 7 Lethbridge 8 8 Waterloo 10 9 Western 6 10 Saskatchewan (Not ranked) Six teams who are not on this list will also go to the CIAU regional tournaments. Automatic qualifiers are the host teams (Lethbridge, Saskatachewan, Waterloo and Acadia) and divison/conference champions. The rest of the spots are filled by wild-card teams selected by the ranking committee. We'll know who goes where next Monday when the seeding for the national tournament is released. jim -- "What, me graduate?" W.
