. . . and he is heading for the wire. It's a photo finish !!! (Oops, wrong sport). George enters the last week of the regular season and the conference tournaments at about the same he has had all season. We hope that he can put it all together come tournament time and predict the winner (yes, we will enter George in the 3rd annual Net NCAA Basketball tournament). Here are George's stats for last week which included some conference tournaments: Dates 0-4 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-24 25-up || Ws Ls LPs Total 2/24-3/02 47 34 23 10 4 0 || 53 32 33 118 Season 455 396 231 126 48 25 || 621 296 364 1281 As for George's top twenty (or so), things took a turn toward the normal. We have a four way tie for the top power rating but will rank the teams as close to their records as possible. The biggest jump was done by Louisville as they lost 12 places. Maryland rejoined the list by playing their best hoops all season. Look for a possible upset in the ACC tournament by them this week. Virginia also dropped several places by losing a couple of games. Here is this week's list: George's Top Twenty (or so) - Week Sixteen 1. Duke Blue Devils (2) 12. Syracuse Orangemen (10) 2. Kansas Jayhawks (5) 13. Memphis State Tigers (18) 3. Michigan Wolverines (8) 14. North Carolina State Wolfpack (13) 4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1) 15. Auburn Tigers (*) 5. North Carolina Tar Heels (3) 16. Louisville Cardinals (4) 6. Michigan State Spartans (9) 17. Oklahoma Sooners (11) 7. Kentucky Wildcats (7) 18. Maryland Terrapins (*) 8. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6) 19. Arizona Wildcats (21) 9. Indiana Hoosiers (17) 20. Jacksonville Dolphins (*) 10. Georgetown Hoyas (15) 21. Virginia Cavaliers (12) 11. Illinois Fighting Illini (*) 22. Iowa Hawkeyes (14) Here we go to the last week of the season and conference tournament time. The Big 10 and Pac 10 are still playing the regular season (no tournament for them) and George has picked those games plus the first round of the conference shows. On Wednesday, Indiana invades Lansing trying to get at least of a share of the Big 10 crown (George say MSU by 6). For the first round of the Big East, George likes Seton Hall, Georgetown, Syracuse, and 'Nova. In the SEC, George says Mississippi, Vandy, Georgia (wrong there), & Florida (wrong again). And for the important one, the ACC on Friday, George picks Duke, Tech, UNC, and N.C. State. Finishing up some regular season action on Saturday, George says Michigan over Indiana at home by 9 and Washington over Cal by 5. So that does it for the regular season. Make sure you all enter the Third Annual Net NCAA Tournament Contest to be posted right after the committee makes their selection by rainbow@ihlts. He's done a very good job at this each year and it should be another fun way to match wits with the rest of the net. George will be keeping track of the NCAAs and post his picks as the games progress. We will also follow the NITs if there are enough teams that George follows in it. We hope you all are looking forward to the tournament as much as we are. And that your team makes it to the final four. Til next week when we'll start the tournament picks off.
