Another NCAA complaint: What (if anything) goes through the minds of the NCAA selection committee members when they assign teams to tournament sites? It's bad enough that Syracuse gets to play two games in the Carrier Dome, but at least the Orangemen will play teams that are seeded lower than they are (and so you might rationalize that Syracuse "earned it" by having a great season). But how about this one in the Southeast: #6 Purdue at #11 LSU? Now how does the committee justify making the higher seed play on the home court of the lower seed? (I expect to see at least one Michael Lewis flame about that pairing.) Every year there is at least one occurrence like this. I guess there ain't no justice! (Kentucky might feel the same way if it plays Georgia Tech in the Omni -- maybe Eddie can borrow Illinois' game plan :-).) And how did DePaul make the field? After all those disappointing tournament appearances by very good DePaul teams, wouldn't it be something if this year's team made a decent showing? On another subject: Bill Raftery was surprisingly candid during the Syracuse-Georgetown game Friday night. He is always reticient regarding all the Big East brawling. But during Friday's game, he came down hard on Georgetown and especially on Reggie Williams. (Williams was trying to be the third man into a fight that had never started.) And another: Michigan was awesome on Saturday. If the Wolverines always came to play it would be easy to predict the NCAA champion. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, they usually just go through the motions. -- Charlie Richter MCC Austin, Texas uucp: {ihnp4, seismo, harvard, gatech, pyramid}!ut-sally!im4u!milano!richter arpa: richter@mcc.ARPA "I bet on nothing that can read or write, so I'm down to dogs and Georgia football." - an anonymous hustler
