From ica.csk@UCLA-LOCUS Thu Dec 8 17:16:48 1983 When we first got our imagen, we ran out of supplies. So I thought, gee can't we get them locally. I called canon and (after numerous phone calls) finally found the office of canon USA in New York that deals with the laser printer. They told me: 1. Don't ever try to use toner or dispersant that looks like it might be similar as you are likely to damage the machine (I had asked them if any of the canon copier toners/dispersants would be usable as I knew I could get those locally... Answer: NO) 2. They recommend you use canon paper (we have used successfully other brand paper for canon copiers type CAN4 (same type as the canon printer wants)) We are experimenting to see if there is any quality difference between the papers. 3. (The killer) I asked canon if we could by paper/toner/dispersant from them. They said NO! They only sell to OEMs. We have to buy it from an OEM such as Symbolics or Imagen. OK. Then I called Symbolics (since they are 1/2 hour drive from here). They would NOT sell it to me! They will only sell supplies to people who have bought printers from them (I thought this was wierd, since I would have assumed they make some money on supplies). Anyhow, this leaves me with no option but to buy my supplies from Imagen. Fortunately, this has worked out quite well. Imagen delivers quickly, and doesn't charge horrendous prices. If anyone out there finds a cheap place to buy quality supplies, let me know.
