From phil@rice Thu Feb 2 00:30:08 1984 It is my understanding that the Xerox 2700 (and thus, I assume, the XP-12 engine) was designed to handle an AVERAGE load of 15,000 pages per month. I have never seen a recommended maximum quoted (which, considering Xerox, surprises me). I'm pretty sure that we print more than that average figure. The worst problem we have is a recurring one: random black splotches on the output. Our field service rep. blames that on the humidity in the room where the printer is operated (unfortunately, we don't have much control over that). I don't know what weight paper Brian Reid is using, but we can only squeeze half a ream (250 sheets) in one of those trays. In fact, Xerox states that one tray will only take 250 sheets of 20 pound paper. All in all, we are pretty pleased with the printer. It is holding up rather well, despite everyone bashing on it like they do. I'm pretty sure that the ratings that Xerox publishes for its machines are intentionally pessimistic, so that an atypically poor machine will still fall within the specs. BTW, we have had problems with a piece of paper getting burned from a jam, but the machine has never caught fire. William LeFebvre Department of Mathematical Sciences Rice University <phil@rice>
