From booker@NRL-AIC Wed Feb 22 14:27:03 1984 We would like to use troff in landscape mode on an IMAGEN laser printer. Unfortunately, this requires troff fonts with other than the usual rotations. Has anyone done this already? If so, please contact me by mail directly. Thanks in advance. Lashon B. Booker Code 7510 Naval Research Laboratory Washington, D.C. 20375 (202) 767-2876 booker@nrl-aic

From morgan@uci-750a Fri Feb 24 14:21:20 1984 The version of dviimp which we got from Imagen in May '83 had a -L option to print in landscape mode (we subsequently changed it to -l for various reasons). It seems to work fine, even including drawings done with the graphics capabilities of 1.7 and later versions of ImPress. I don't know if it relies on features of ImPress which are new, or if it would work with any Imprint-10. A quick glance at the code indicated that it rotates the glyphs when they're downloaded into the Imprint-10 (we certainly don't have special versions of the fonts, though Dan is right that Berkeley distributes theirs in that form). Dviimp is one of the post processors used in translating standard troff's output to Impress (not device independent troff's -- use Lou Salkind's version of dcan for that). This version also supports TeX82 (that is, both DVI version 1 and version 2 files). Tim Morgan, UC Irvine ICS Department

From dberry@UCLA-CS Thu Feb 23 22:12:11 1984 I have not done it yet, but I have some ideas on how to use existing software.. Get Lou Salkind's (salkind@nyu) dcan which interprets dtroff output with bit maps in rst format to get impress files. He also has utilities for converting versatec font bitmaps into rst format. The versatec fonts come in rotated and unrotated form and there is a program in thee berkeley distribution called rotate. You might use combinations of this software e.g., convert a rotated versatec font into an rst font. OR you might hack rotate to work on rst fonts. Let me know how it goes ( you can even give us a copy of whatever you get up -- that's my consulting fee) Dan Berry
