                              PROTEXT I

The First  International Conference,  Exhibition and  Workshop on Text
Processing Systems,  Dublin, Ireland,  22-26 October  1984, for people
from business, industry and academia interested in computer-aided text
processing systems.

Keynote speakers  include J.Carmichael (ICL), B.Kernighan (Bell Labs),
P.MacKay (Seattle), B.Reid (Stanford), V.Quint (Grenoble), I.Wieselman
(Dataproducts) plus  speakers  possibly  from  Hewlett-Packard,  Wang,
Toshiba  (Japan)   and  University   of  Tokyo   (Dept.of  Information
Sciences).

Emphasis  will  be  placed  on  the  following  areas:  Computer-aided
generation of  generalised copy  (graphics, mathematical,  non-English
language);   computer-generated   book-quality   masters   for   print
production;  interactive   editing   systems;   interactive   document
composition; computer-aided  typography; and  human factors as well as
current research  and future  developments in  hardware  and  software
(including laser printers).

The workshop  will be  concerned with  state-of-the-art computer-aided
text processing  systems, with  live demonstrations  of actual systems
and their  use (including  SCRIBE, TEX,  TROFF and EDIMATH). Companies
marketing related  hardware  and  software  will  exhibit  during  the
Workshop and  Conference and  it is expected that several new products
will be announced at this exhibition.

show, and I have sent them a letter telling them that I won't be
there (they are advertising me as a keynote speaker...)
