From: furuta@uw-june.arpa (Richard Furuta) Does anyone have any information on this? --Rick From cedar!dick Tue May 22 15:03:00 1984 Received: by uw-june.arpa (3.346/1.4) id AA28956; 22 May 84 15:02:57 PDT (Tue) Date: 22 May 84 15:02:57 PDT (Tue) From: cedar!dick Message-Id: <8405222202.AA28956@uw-june.arpa> To: furuta My wife heard something on the radio about a very inexpensive (~3500 bucks) HP laser printer. I haven't heard anything about it at all. The cheapest thing I've heard of is the Imagen 8/300 (or whatever), and that was about 10k or so. What's the poop? d

From: Damouth.Wbst@XEROX.ARPA Yes - there is an ad in the Wall Street Journal this morning for the H-P LaserJet: "under $3500", interfaces for IBM PC, PC compatibles and "most other popular personal computers". No other details. It is reported to be based on the Canon LBP-CX. /Dave

From: "Tim Shimeall" <tim@uci-750a> I contacted HP via the 800 number given previously on this group, and got the following information: 1) The HP Laserjet printer does sell for less than $3500, quantity one. 2) This printer does support graphics, with a resolution of 300 dots/inch, "although this may be limited by the resolution of some microcomputers." A graphics package to drive the Laserjet is currently running on the HP-150 computer. 3) This printer seems to be geared for the personal, or small business computer market. The person I talked to at HP hinted at plans to use the IBM PC to drive the Laserjet, but this is not available yet. 4) This printer does NOT have the capability to accept downloadable character sets, and, upon query, HP indicated it is not suitable for use with systems such as Metafont/TeX. I did not inquire about what predefined fonts are available for it. I have some more information (sales literature) on this printer coming in the mail. (the above is the sum of my knowlege of it) When it comes, I'll post anything interesting. Tim
