[net.misc] Vanity plates... A query

chuqui@nsc.UUCP (Chuq) (08/17/84)

I wonder if that person will admit to anything.... :->

Actually, it might be interesting to find out how many people in general
have vanity plates and what they think it is important to say with them...

How about it, folks-- What does YOUR plate say, and why?

chuq (mine, of course, says 'CHUQUI'... Did you need to ask? *grin*)

Dreams, dreams, enchanter! Gone with the harp's echo when the strings fall
mute; with the flame's shadow when the fire dies. Be still, and listen.

The cry on Lake Mendota among M-20 racers (at least back in the
70's when I did any), playing chicken for position at the line,
was "Right boat!" Thus the possible plate, "RT BOAT".

mine says AXEMAN 1 - AXEMAN was taken. axeman was a handle i used on a
certain system chuq would be happy to tell you all about (right, chuq !?)
that has since moved to the bit bucket in the sky.

now who can guess what AXEMAN means ? only *4* people have since i got the
plate over 3 years ago.

While attending USENIX in Toronto last summer, I saw two Toyota
Supras with UNIX plates. One was Massachusetts the other was
New Hampshire (I think). (Who are you guys?)

So, a year ago when I bought a Supra, I figured it was necessary to
apply for a UNIX plate. I now have the only UNIX license in Colorado!

See, now isn't this a better place for this discussion than
net.jokes?

Several years ago when I moved to Maryland, I dutifully
went to the MVA to get license plates. I got my plates
at random, and received:

		FRY 509

Innocent enough, right? Upon my first return to Pa to
visit friends, I was asked several times, "Are those
vanity plates?"

I guess my wild past will forever be with me, eh?

Mine says "SPAF". One of these days, I'll get one that says "VEGAN"
and put it on my space cruiser.

I don't know about the Massachusettes ``UNIX'' plate, but the New Hampshire
one belongs to Armando Stettner <aps@decvax.UUCP>.

Actually, in California the extra money for the
plates is supposed to help pay for State parks (or something like that)
are are somewhat officially called envirnomental plates. Mine
say "kds gsp" which seems to generate some incredulous chuckles
for a class of current and former Purdue people (are you out there,
kt?)
