From: Alan.Lesgold@CMU-CS-A.ARPA (N981AL60) We have been experiencing crumpling of the lower left corner of pages going through our Imagen 10. Anywhere from 2cm x 2cm to 9cm high by 3 cm wide of the page gets crumpled relatively late in the print process. We are starting to find superstitious adjustments that affect the problem but have no clear model of the cause. If anyone else has experienced this and has thoughts on how to fix it, please let me know. Alan.Lesgold@cmu-cs-a.arpa

From: Mabry Tyson <Tyson@SRI-AI.ARPA> We have had that problem off and on for a long time. Since we are on maintenance we call them in to repair it and they usually fix it. If someone else doesn't give you a solution, our service comes out of Imagen's main office. Try contacting them to find out what is going on. -------

The problem of paper crumpling has to do with the degradation of a rubber roller (known as the 'paper separation roller'). The degradation is caused by the pre-mix getting on the rubber itself. There is a (cellophane?) belt that rides on the roller, and when the rubber gets soft, it causes a groove to form in the roller. This causes an overall decrease in the diameter of the roller so that the roller and the surface of the drum do not move exactly in sync, causing the paper to crumple. The life of this roller can be substantially increased by moving it about 4mm away from the drum. Sylvan
