From: Jerry Roylance <GLR%MIT-OZ@MIT-MC.ARPA> Hello. The MIT AI Laboratory just got a Digital Equipment LN01S with an LN100 controller. We would like to know its font format so we could define our own fonts and print bitmaps. Does anyone have this information? From: DIPACE@BBNF.ARPA I believe that DEC's LN01s is OEMed by QMS. You should probably get a copy of the QMS programmer manual. It explains the font loading sequence. Also there maybe be more then one depending on the version of the micro code. QMS's newer micro code supports the old sequence and also a new one that is more compact and vertically aligns characters by their base line not their top. The bitmap stuff should be the same also. [[Editor's note: Unless something has changed in the past few months, the QMS 1200 and the LN01 do not have the same interface. Both use the same Xerox-produced print engine (also used in the Xerox 2700) but I believe that each company has produced its own interface to that engine and therefore the interfaces can be expected to differ. --Rick ]]

We have recently acquired a DEC LN01S laser printer. The LN01S is basically an LN01 with an 'LN100' interface, which is rumored to look like the QMS box, but with different firmware. I am shopping for software to drive the beast. Things like: 1) font down loading information 2) fonts 3) host software: troff -or- ditroff interfaces host software fonts I would be interested in packages that are either free (obviously), or have a purchase price.
