From: cornell!j!vax135!h.clark@uw-beaver.arpa [] I am looking to purchase a couple of laser printers and am attracted by the Imagen 12/300 (we have some earlier Imagens and are favourably impressed). Since I know very little about the practicalities of running laser printers in general, perhaps some knowledgeable types out there can answer some questions. The working environment will be VAX 11/780s under UNIX 5.0 (or later). Most usage is n/troff-like (text processing, but hopefully with some graphics for letterheads and stuff) and using multiple fonts. 1) Does anyone have one of these? What experiences have you? 2) Should I be looking at anything else? 3) How much memory is worth buying? I am looking to hang these off an Ethernet, using the TCP/IP package. I am consequently looking at Ethernet boards with embedded protocols for my VAXen, specifically the Interlan and the Excelan ones. 4) Does anyone know whether either of these boards are compatible with the Imagen tcp/ip (or incompatible). (I'm not a tcp/ip expert, but I got burned real bad by X.25 once). 5) Do the Imagen programs "just work" when you do this? Or will I have to do fancy things either in the kernel or in the applications? 6) Is there anything else I should know or be asking before I splash out $40K? Jonathan Clark [NAC]!hou5g!jhc
