From: ihnp4!utzoo!henry@uw-beaver.arpa Here, straight from the HP service manual, is the scoop on how to set baud rates on your HP LaserJet. We've just moved one of ours up to 19200, for faster typesetting. 1. Remove the font cartridge (if any). [Damned if I know why.] 2. Turn the power off. Unplug the power cord. 3. Look at the rear panel, comprising most of the side of the printer above the manual feed slot. It is held on by four Philips screws. Unscrew them. Take the panel off; you'll have to wiggle it a bit to get it loose. 4. Just under the top surface of the printer, you'll see a PC board. Roughly in the middle, half-hidden behind a small metal bracket, you will see a set of DIP switches marked SW1. 5. You are interested in switches 2, 3, and 4. Leave the others alone. The switches are numbered left-to-right, and the numbers should be visible on the switch body. Set them accordingly (you'll have to use a pen or something to reach in; switch 4 in particular is almost behind the aforementioned metal bracket). switch 2 3 4 rate off off off 300 off off on 600 off on off 1200 off on on 2400 on off off 4800 on off on 9600 (this should be the way it comes) on on off 19200 The HP manual does not say what you get from "on on on". 6. Put the rear panel and its screws back. 7. Plug it in. Turn the power back on. 8. Adjust the baud rate your system uses, to match. The above information is offered as a service to responsible adults. I take no responsibility for the consequences of its use, be they electrocution of your hardware man or accidental activation of the self-destruct system of your LaserJet. Be Careful.
